Sun on my face, chlorine in the air, screeches of delight everywhere. …. The water park. It always seems like a good idea, a mom-of-the -year suggestion, an easy plan. The reality can be ugly sometimes though – sold out tickets, bloody knees from the fall on the cement while running (even though I said, “No running, ” like a million times), soggy sandwiches, long lines and what is floating in the wave pool?
But as we conquered our local watering hole, I found something beautiful. I looked around and saw so many beautiful moms (and even a few dads, grandpas and grandmas), in their bathing suits, soaking wet and having fun. What is beautiful about this, you ask? These moms were not Barbies or fashion models, but all shapes and sizes and at least for an afternoon, they managed to put aside their own insecurities for their children. Granted, they may not all suffer from the same dread I have of strolling around all day in my bathing suit as if I totally am fine with my body and I truly hope they don’t. But for those that do, I hope they know that they should mark today as a win! Even if they snap on the way home or somebody spills their milk at dinner – today is a win and I saw them in all their beauty. But more importantly, their children saw it. Winning!
